POS input appliance such as a POS
keyboard, credit-card reader or smart
card and a barcode scanner. The POS
hardware bundle will require output
devices such as touch screen or LCD
screen, consumer pole display, and a
receipt printer. All these devices put
together form the POS machine.

vendors provide PC point of sale
solutions to the customers at low costs.
Moreover, there is high availability of
the required hardware in case
replacements need to be done. However,

services. However, a consumer will
approach the same vendor for providing
services.
It is always better to
use a POS terminal which is an
integrated solution and has proper
hardware mounted, with all the three
units tightly coupled or integrated
together. This not only saves space but
al eliminates the need for messy wiring.
However, almost all integrate point of
sale terminals come with a price.
Types of POS hardware
systems – Restaurant point of sale
hardware as well as Retail point of sale
hardware are similar to each other. The
only difference between the two is
software that manages the business and
the touch screen. The detailed
explanation of these two types is as
follows:
Retail POS System and
Hardware – When only one terminal is
present, then only a single set of point
of sale hardware will be required,
including a POS keyboard, card reader,
barcode reader, receipt printer, pole
display, CPU unit and a good LCD
display. When multiple terminals are
present, an extra PC server is needed so
that all the sales data can be
consolidated for providing sophisticated
reporting to the management.
Restaurant POS System and
Hardware – The two vital components in a
restaurant POS system and hardware are
back kitchen and front desk. The front
desk has a touch-screen POS system which
will receive orders and send orders to
back kitchen. The receipt printer
present at the back kitchen will print
out the order. Based on the type of
software, a few systems support remote
transferring of data to the Headquarters
for sales control and consolidation.
Cheap POS hardware – The
best method to obtain a POS terminal is
by used hardware. Certain POS hardware
stores or vendors may provide this
solution. However, used POS hardware is
considered a bit outdated and old and
may not be appropriate for running new
software which has better features when
compared to the older ones. When used
POS hardware is opted for, a trader
could have to use old software as well
and also use older method for management
available on the old software. Certain
POS hardware rebrands the POS machine
together with the POS solution. This not
only provides compactness and
professional sense, it also helps a
trader to promote business in the market
